|
|
I had this crazy idea about a computer program where you could use MapDEX card images to build a map, then print it out for game use. This printed version could be used by the GM to layout the dungeon ahead of time, and still reveal only so much of the dungeon at a time to the players while playing.
I'm sure that people are already doing this with pencil and paper, but I think the ease of plunking down cards on the computer would be cool. _________________ -Gando

Thats a pretty sweet idea and I dont know why I didn't think of it first. All of the master programming minds that visit the forums feel free to build this tool and if it works it will be posted in our downloads section. _________________ Patheos

Doesn't that make it that others won't need to buy the cards? Don't know if they were released or not.
But, a program to do this would be easy. I would just need the images of the cards. _________________ +++++++++

You could probably either do low-res/watermarked versions of the images (so, not suitable for running an adventure in), or you could just do outlines or something similar. _________________ J.T. Kauffman |

There was a company that actually did this a few years back. Their program was actually pretty neat.

The cards are way more fun than any printout, can be used in many different ways, and they are not expensive; so, even if someone could just print out the map, I don't think this would take away from the cards. But...
The printed map wouldn't be that big (I was thinking a standard 8.5X11), The print out would be a general low-resolution idea of what cards were to be used. The GM could place a card, then make a mark on the printout to show which cards were down. The game would be played on the cards - as it should be.
I figured it would be used to create a dungeon ahead of time on the computer, then use the cards to reveal it a few cards at a time to the players.
I just got mine in the mail this morning! W00t! They are way cool.
I'm going to come up with a process for a random dungeon crawl and use them at ConQuest Sacramento in a Fudge based game. _________________ -Gando
